WELCOME .. 2012 9th Annual 18U/Gold Champions Cup Participants...

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the 9th Champions Cup tournament, an elite showcase fastpitch softball event being July 11-15, 2012 in Irvine, California. The Champions Cup is organized and operated by the Southern California International Softball Festival Champions Cup committee. The tournament is a SoCal ASA sanctioned event with modified ASA rules in effect. Net proceeds derived from the operation of the 2012 Champions Cup will be used to fund awards that will be granted to qualified applicants. The awards will be paid directly to the institutions they attend or will attend, to be credited toward the cost of their education. No awards will be granted to recipients if the receipt of such award is not allowed/legal in conjunction with any other forms of financial aid the recipient may be entitled to receive.

Last week we had three international teams participate in the 16U 4th annual Champions Cup and had some very interesting and enlighting exchanges of cultures and ideas: ISA New Zealand 16U with Craig Waterhouse, Nanaimo Diamonds with Bryce Johnson from Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada and South Delta Invaders with Greg Baron from Delta, British Columbia, Canada.

For those of you who did not have the opportunity to come to the manager's dinner on July 10, 2012, you truly missed an opportunity!!! GREAT speakers who shared their "secrets to ASU's success" at the Hyatt Regency in Irvine throughout Coach Clint Myers, Coach Chuck D'Arcy and Coach Scott Woodard's five hour ...... personal one on one conversation / lecture / question and answer series..

THIS WEEK... "you" coaches will be showcasing your athletes in 6 games of pool play. Your Wins and Losses, Ties, Runs For and Runs Against will count towards your seeding for the Single Elimination Tournament which begins on Saturday, July 14, 2012 with Championship Game at 5:30 on Sunday, July 15, 2012.

urgent new note regarding last minute changes in parking allowance at Mark Daily/formerly Alton Park and Lower Peters

2012 Parking Guidelines (rev1 07/11/12)

Parking is available at all tournament sites on a first-come, first-served basis and please obey all parking restrictions and courtesies.  Maps can be viewed online at www.championscup.org.  NO MOTOR HOME/RV OR OVERNIGHT PARKING IS ALLOWED AT ANY CITY FACILITY.  They must park off site at facilities that have no restrictions as parking spaces are limited at all parks listed.  The following are additional items specific to each tournament location:

[1] Harvard Community Athletic Park
Parking is available in the lots adjacent to the fields.  Harvard’s overflow is in the housing tract across Harvard, called College Park.  Street parking is allowed on Poplar and Red Rock but NOT on Harvard Ave.  (Park at your own risk !)

[2] Colonel Bill Barber Marine Corps Memorial Park
Parking immediately behind the Irvine City Hall (Parking Lot 1) and across the driveway adjacent to the child care center and Deanna Manning Stadium (Parking Lot 2) is restricted from use until 6:00 PM on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday – July 11, 12, 13th.    Parking is available in these locations after 6:00 PM on these days and at all times on Saturday and Sunday.   Barricade signs and staff at Lot 2 will be stating no parking except for tournament officials, umpires and volunteers with Champions Cup Parking Passes.  Handicap parking is allowed in Lot 2 and some occasional drop off of players.  Please be aware that uniformed Irvine Police Department personnel will be enforcing these restrictions.

Parking Lot 3, accessible from Harvard Avenue at San Juan, is available at all times.  Creekside Alternative High School’s lot for RV’s and overflow parking on July 11-15th is open.  Creekside is located at the corner of Barranca and Harvard Ave and the parking lot is behind the school with entrances off of Harvard and Barranca heading west.

 [3] Mark Daily Athletic Field/formerly Alton Park
The parking lot at Mark Daily is very small and must be shared by tournament officials, umpires, college coaches, teams and spectators.   We ask that everyone carpool to this location when possible.  Additional Parking is available on the WEST SIDE of West Yale Loop (Park side), from 25’ north of Alton Parkway to the bridge. (Do not block the bus stop)  PARKING IS NOT ALLOWED ON THE EAST SIDE (High School Side) OF WEST YALE LOOP.  

Additional parking is available across the street at Woodbridge High School’s small lot between the flood control channel and the football practice field or at the alternative high school, located on the other side of the flood channel. Do not jay walk across the street, please use the bridge underpass from the school lot to the park or the cross walk at Alton and West Yale Loop.  Jay Walkers will be cited.
 
After 6pm and on Weekends, the Medical/Restaurant Commercial lot on the park side on the other side of the flood control channel are available but not during weekday business hours. 

[4] Lower Peters Canyon Community Park
There is a parking lot on Farwell and Culver and at the Beckman High School adjacent to the fields.   Street parking is NOT ALLOWED.
